People like Steinem insist that for women to be equal they have to be non-parents or be able to kill their children.
Men, in comparison, are the standard regardless of their parental or reproductive status. They can have procreated 0, 1, 3, 5, 25 children ... doesn’t matter. Their parental reproductive status makes no difference in them being the standard that women are supposed to be trying to be ‘equal’ to.
According to people like Steinem, the ONLY WAY women can be ‘equal’ to men is if they have the ability to interrupt their conception and not bear children ... or not be parents. Men don’t have to do this (in their eyes).
Men are treated as non-parents by default.
