My Great Dane has the same attitude. He’s a couch potato/love muffin. Nevertheless, I always call him a “trained guard/attack dog” just to help his self-esteem, even though all the neighbors, contractors, and delivery people laugh at me when I say that. BTW, he’s NOT a spoiled dog.
hate running, just couldn't stand all those jock-o-tools, going on & on about weightlifting/bodybuilding not about fitness, runners are special, blah blah blah.
There are physiological events that sometimes occur in extreme events like a marathon.
Not usually discussed on ESPN.
Way worse than barfing.
Are they tested for drugs?
The crapping, or the mental breakdowns?
I had a landlord that owned a Dane....one day during the summer I looked out back and saw him lying by the garage, he was staring and physically shaking..... I thought the worst.
Down the back steps I went, got to the back door and checked again...eyep still shaking...then I noticed a sparrow sitting on the rim of his dog dish....
I’m sure
sub 4 minute mile done on ....wait for it... May 6, 1954
This article describes last minute details in the effort which answers many of your questions.. there is a link to watch embedded in the article.
Pretty perfect conditions. I hear they have sets of 6 pace setters that will be running with them. I think they get regular feedback as to their pace through out the race too.
Going to that linked site, the runners are running behind a pace car with a raised part showing elapsed time. If they run behind that pace car it will be an unfair advantage as they will be running in its slipstream. Any sub-two-minute result should therefore not be considered a record or at least should be shown with an asterisk disclosing the drafting, IMHO.
Wouldn’t mental breakdowns be psychological?
Not physiological.
“Runners Trots”
It wouldn’t be considered a record. They violate several rules. The pace setters are going to run in a “V” formation with the actual runners in single file behind them. It is realy more of a science experiment than a track event.
They are wearing some fancy shoe...lots of discussion on the performance value of it and if it will count for the record.
Best post of the week! thanks for making my night!
This won't count as a world record, but will serve as a major marketing coup for Nike.
Still very neat to accomplish.
They are only at the 15 minute mark
