Few specifically know how much Patriots coach Bill Belichick, the highest paid coach in the NFL, makes. There’s a belief in some league circles that he makes $12.5 million per year.

Whatever he makes, Belichick now has competition from the college ranks: Nick Saban will make $11.15 million this year at Alabama.

'Bama signed Saban through end of 2024. Worth every penny considering 'Bama football is a $100 MM revenue business.

By the end of the contract Saban will probably be the last current SEC coach to be standing. Saban has been a destroyer of coaching careers.

Nice to have a business where the labor is essentially free.

The $11 million thing for 2017 is also due to a 1-time signing bonus of $4m... but then he also gets a balloon payment on another bonus in 2022.

Biggest WV state paycheck goes to WVU’s basketball coach.

Second biggest goes to the football coach.

Saban is a good coach but he has the horses needed to win.

I think Swinney out coached him last year.

Thank ESPN. They turned the NFL into a wheezing, flashing, self obsessed spectacle. Now, they’re going to destroy college football.

enjoy the spectacle. you probably have 5 years or so before the stench drives away all but the most hypnotized zombies.

He sure did on offense in the Championship game. No doubt about it. It's like Kiffen never left. He put too much on the shoulders of the young quarterback. In the end the Bama defense was defeated because they were tired. End of story.

University of Alabama: one of the few schools where there is a spot on the admissions form for “Ring size”. For future reference purposes.

"Few specifically know how much Patriots coach Bill
Belichick, the highest paid coach in the NFL, makes."

Then how does anyone know he's the highest paid coach in the NFL?

“Nice to have a business where the labor is essentially free.”

According the Forbes, the Bama football program earned almost $100 million for the university last year. That’s a lot of books and test tubes for the different departments for the college. There is a huge negative feedback from the public about the money spent for all the college sports programs, but most major universities and colleges are floating because of the income generated from football. It make tuition a little less and provides better classrooms. And TV contracts and bowl money are premium.

Of that they gave back NINE million to the other departments. AND fees from textbooks, housing and parking went up almost 10 percent while enrollment only went up 3 percent.

Not sure how Alabama works, at WVU the athletic department pays tuition for the athletes on scholarship. The money generated from the athletic programs stays in the athletic department.

According to what I read in a few articles, the athletic departments spend money from revenue on athletic things that the university would normally be required to cover. Probably the biggest assets are stadiums and play toys like computerized screens for their athletic fields that are considered real property and would be the responsibility of the university. thus freeing up funds for other departments and their needs. The colleges in the case of the big earners like Bama, Notre Dame, and Tennessee run a loan program to the university to supplement the other university programs while covering other sports needs for the college and building their worth.

So, as the money goes out, it is used to replace the need at the college so they can spend it for academics or borrow it.
