Why would a doctor do this?

Did he/she/it tell you why?

My Dr. did not tell me why.

I do trust him. His Father was my Dr. before his Son joined his practice. The Father is very conservative/Christian and the Son seems to be the same.

BTW, he is a Harvard grad.
