Buy several small magnets rather than one large. They are, indeed, not toys once they get to a certain size.
For a fun little trick place a RE magnet in a copper pipe and let it go. Slide it down a piece of copper. I forget the name of the effect but it’s kind of fun to experiment.
Sadly, because of environazi US policies China owns 90% of the world’s supply of RE materials. This destroyed my business about 10 years ago. I had a very successful business manufacturing a product that used tungsten and RE magnets. When the tsunami hit China clamped down the supplies and my raw materials went up 10x overnight.
What happens to tungsten around strong magnets?
The ones I ordered are smallish slim disks — 1-1/2” x 1/16” which is about the size of a silver dollar but thinner. My plan is to screw a strip of thin steel bar stock to the wall for the magnets to stick to through the fabric (actually a cowhide patchwork about 1/8” thick). They arrive next week. These are small enough that I think Wile E. Coyote type incidents are unlikely but we shall see.
