Buy several small magnets rather than one large. They are, indeed, not toys once they get to a certain size.
For a fun little trick place a RE magnet in a copper pipe and let it go. Slide it down a piece of copper. I forget the name of the effect but it’s kind of fun to experiment.
Sadly, because of environazi US policies China owns 90% of the world’s supply of RE materials. This destroyed my business about 10 years ago. I had a very successful business manufacturing a product that used tungsten and RE magnets. When the tsunami hit China clamped down the supplies and my raw materials went up 10x overnight.
a lot more people are going to get hurt by them
I bought a bunch of neodymium magnets years ago. I don’t “play” with the strongest ones anymore. Like you said, they are kind of scary and are just too much to handle. You can really hurt yourself if you’re not careful.
Now, the weaker ones, you can play with all day long. But if you buy some of them, try not to let them slam together. They are plated with a shiny nickel plating that easily chips off. Underneath the nickel plating is an ugly dark gray metallic core that easily crumbles and flakes away with repeated handling.
Nowadays, I mostly use some of the weaker ones as super strong refrigerator magnets. The very strongest ones that I actually purchased are safely tucked away in their original boxes until I figure out what to do with them - which will be NEVER. And I didn’t even try to buy the top-of-the-line monster strong ones. They had strict conditions on who they would sell them to. Researchers mostly. I didn’t understand it at the time, but I surely do now... They don’t want to see anyone get hurt and I’m sure they didn’t want to deal with the liability issues.
At the same time, I bought several dozen strong magnets that had been salvaged from hard drives. They are cheap and plenty strong for the average person and, yes, they will pinch the hell out of you if you get your finger caught between them. You also don’t have to worry about stuff flaking off them with normal use.
The norks are how China sells it’s missile and nuke tech to bad guys.
They have been making counterfeit American money for a long time and have gotten so good at it that the experts have a hard time telling it isnt real. Its literally better than what we make. Its their way of getting back at us for who knows what.
We are officially at war with North Korea. Both sides simply agreed to a ceasefire/armistice on 27 July, 1953.
North Korea is a cold war orphan like Cuba.
That's one of the reasons that new security features have been incorporated into American currency. Some of their Benjamins could be distinguished from American currency because the printing was too crisp, details that were blurry on genuine currency could be seen under a microscope in the counterfeits. The Swiss company Spica which sells intaglio security inks for currencies worldwide, sells the U.S. Treasury black ink, and similar ink in magenta to the North Koreans, who add pigments to make it black. This frustrates the Treasury.
The Malaysian bank which was acting as a conduit for these bills, as well as Malaysian government, were warned that they would lose their access to the world banking system if they continued their relationship with the Norks.
It is frightening and sad to think what the Norks could achieve if they could turn their energies and talents to constructive pursuits.
“Another risk of these powerful magnets is that if more than one magnet is ingested, they can pinch soft tissues in the gastrointestinal tract. This has led to at least 1,700 emergency room visits and necessitated the recall of the Buckyballs line of toys, which were construction sets of small neodymium magnets.”

You probably already have as these are used in ear bud type headsets. The advantage of these magnets is they have amazing power to weight ration so an itsy-bitsy magnet can drive an in ear speaker and produce great sound.
My college roommate used 4 wires to suspend his turntable from the ceiling. It looked really cool and had the best isolation of any method I'd ever seen! He attached the other end of the wires to a piece of wood that served as a shelf and placed the turntable on that.
LOL!
What happens to tungsten around strong magnets?
A few of them together perhaps?
I have it on my amazon wishlist.
Try magnet fishing into youtube.
Aluminum in an MRI machine
It’s great to see there are still audiophiles alive, lol. You might try some of the sheets or small pads from this company for your turntable. I’ve used these on several military projects with great results. http://www.sorbothane.com/
The ones I ordered are smallish slim disks — 1-1/2” x 1/16” which is about the size of a silver dollar but thinner. My plan is to screw a strip of thin steel bar stock to the wall for the magnets to stick to through the fabric (actually a cowhide patchwork about 1/8” thick). They arrive next week. These are small enough that I think Wile E. Coyote type incidents are unlikely but we shall see.
Don’t let your dog eat magnets.
