I really detest when writers/filmmakers take over an existing work to put their own bizarre spins into it. It is a parasitical way to proceed. Let them write/film an ORIGINAL work, don’t trash someone else’s art.
Agreed. But I’d go a shade slimier. I hate it when hollywood targets “beloved classics” in order to pollute and erase them from the culture and instead, replace it with trash they want propagated. But that’s just me....

I kind of agree. (There could be exceptions)
Especially for something so well known and classic.
It has apparently gone in to the public domain now, so anyone can now do what they want with it.
