Wow.

That is *much* lower than I expected and really disappointing.

Small dogs tend to be babied and I suspect people worry about being ‘rough’ with them.
And indeed, some tiny breeds, like Teacup Chihuahuas are very fragile.

My aunt had one and she carried it everywhere.
And *every* chance it got, it would try to bite my mom when she walked past my aunt.

I’ve always thought being around a trained dog was a pleasure for you and the dog. Likewise being around an untrained dog sucks for everyone. Dogs actually like to be trained and have structure and discipline, to know exactly who is in charge of things and what is expected of them.

Looking around the net, many claim the reason the vast majority of well cared for dogs go untrained is that the owners think it makes the dog feel bad, they mistakenly humanize the dogs feelings. I suspect while that is true, laziness is also a main component. Training a dog takes time, repetition and effort. Also in the mass media culture today everyone has a shortened attention span. Many probably are real gung ho to train their dog at first but get bored and throw their hands up in the air after a while.
