Firstly, backup Outlook into pst file. Secondly, remove the connections files and all instances. Thirdly, if there are glitches in Outlook operating after that, reinstall Outlook. Lastly, import the pst backup file into Outlook, if there are glitches. If no glitches, you are good to go.

I’m not sure you read what the user issue is.

The user has Live Essentials, and wants to GO TO Outlook.

Therefore, there is no initial outlook .pst or ost files to backup, no?

Doesn’t Live Essentials store all user mail online? You can save messages but they’re plain text files with a .eml extension. If you do so, the saved messages are in the Store folder. When viewing your message list, press Ctrl-Shift-O for Options. On the Advanced tab, click Maintenance and then Store folder to see its location.

Seems to me if the user has a Live account, then they use the browser to go to their mail. They can ADD the account to Outlook, and all mail already stored on Live (or Outlook.com, Hotmail.com, MSN.com) will then download to the local .ost file.
