The dial stops at 1600 because AM frequencies do not go above 1600.
Above 1600 you have the short-wave frequencies.
I mention 1600 on AM because, some years ago, the AM band was expanded up to 1700. My car radio goes up to 1700 on the AM band. But my radios at home only go to 1600.
