The video of the post is classic wild animal attack - a tail wagging pit bull takes down it's young prey easily without barking because, well that would alert the "prey" and others who think children shouldn't be mauled. These dogs just aren't domesticated for life among civilized. Kid is standing playing with friends and the dog gleefully runs up and starts thrashing the kid (no blood visible in the video at this distance but horrible to watch, some blood in the photo of wounds on the neck of the toddler). Per the article, the dog "accidentally got out" (pit bulls can't be contained wihtout special enclosures and handling) and has done so in the past, people living in fear....yada yada yada. How many times have I watched video of a tail-wagging pit bull ripping someone apart. DOGS OF PEACE I found this article because I read a hilarious Vanity Faire article about Chelsea Clinton and they noted Chelsea was ridiculed for tweeting about this dog attack. Don't miss that VF article - it's on FR and it's unbelievable times have changed so much that a Clinton can actually be criticized in the news.

Why didn’t somebody in the town just put a bullet in it.

Our dog park has a five foot chain link fence and I have seen full sized pit bulls climb over. They are powerful dogs built for fighting. They can be raised right but any dog can go off under some circumstance and these dogs are hard to stop.

Moments later, people can be seen rushing over to help, with one man pulling the canine away by its collar.
...
I’ve read that the proper technique is to pull the dog away by the hind legs.

I saw a video where a couple in their 60’s helped save a man being attacked by a pit bull. The rescuing man picked up the hind legs of the dog and it let go of the man it was mauling. The entire time its hind legs were held high (not a full hand stand for the dog but at least 45 degrees, the dog never attempted to attack) The “victim” got to his feet and backed away. When he saw that he was free and the retiree was kind of stuck there because if he let go the dog might attack him, the “victim” laughed and left the older couple to deal with it. Eventually the retiree let go of the dog and it turned and began mauling him - his wife then lifted the dog by the hind legs. That’s where the video ended.

IIRC, you’re supposed to pull and toss the dog. It’ll be in such shock it’ll take off. It makes sense because they never have to deal with such a thing in the wild.
I don’t want to test it out, though.

Oh great...attempts by sociopaths to breed larger and larger killing machines has paid off...meet the 174 pound pit bull. This psychotic thinking has also led to attempts to bring back rare aggressive breeds like the Pakistani Mastiff. Just what the world needs: a naturally aggressive 200 pound dog which even its owner has a hard time controlling. Also, the resurgence of fighting breeds like the Gull Dong, bandog, presa canario, tibetan mastiff, etc. are further examples.

Two pit bulls recently excaped from their yard here in Oklahoma City and attacked a small dog that an 82 year old lady was walking. She attempted to get them off her dog and they ended up killing both her and her dog. She was nearly decapitated.

So someone stood there taking video of this attack instead of rushing in to help this poor child? What is wrong with people?

Oops! Never mind, I see now that it says “surveillance video”. That’s what I get for skimming.
