Not in MA. Because he died before his appeal was heard, it is likely that his conviction will be vacated.
That said, he would have been cut for missing practice and games. He did not fulfill his end of the contract.
I don’t have a problem with his estate going to his victim and his daughter. She was the only innocent in the whole mess.
