We can debate Dr. Dao till the cows come home (no pun intended) but when it comes to Rover and Fluffy that's another story. If this story is true then United does indeed suck in the worst possible way and would suggest FReepers not take your pets on this airline!
Doggie ping
Kitty ping
Snake ping
Don’t take any of these on United Airlines this story is why!!!
..And the Hits just keep on comin!
Bastards!
Before passing judgment on this, I would need to know two pieces of information: what is the percentage of pets conveyed by United that died or were injured, vis-à-vis other airlines (it’s possible more died on United because more were transported on United), and does the method of conveyance on United differ from that of other airlines (e.g., are they more likely to put pets in cargo hold as opposed to crated in the passenger compartment).
My current puppy flew in via United. His breeder uses them all the time. She breeds Czech German Shepherds and always has a waiting list for working line puppies, so she’s a frequent puppy flier. She’s used United for many years without any issues.
My pup was just fine.
I am always nervous about flying in a dog, though. Especially when there’s a stop over, which there usually is. The most anxiety provoking was a lovely GSD girl I brought over from Amsterdam to LAX. I think the shipper used Delta Dash that time. She also was fine and happy.
A lot of it has to do with the fact that I only buy GSDs with excellent, rock solid nerves. Thus, they don’t show a lot of signs of stress.
This is Bongo and Mr. T in Rhode Island the night that we picked them up at the airport:
Thank you for this information. Now I know how to get rid of that pesky cat my wife took in last winter.
Dogs aren’t allowed to have MRIs, but CATScan...
Invalid until we know the f*cking PERCENTAGES involved. Easy to calculate. (animals that died / total number of animals carried) times 100.
Repeat for each airline. Report airline with highest number.
Easy, eh?
And stop with the “everybody dump on United”. Yes, United is responsible for the assault on the Vietnamese doctor, but let’s not blame them for everything else.
Out of over 109,000 pets transported..........Sounds safer than carrying your pet in your lap while driving as a lot of idiots do or letting them out of the house.
Any information on the cause of these deaths, such as maybe preexisting conditions or perhaps the distance of the flights? Of course not...........
"In the US alone approximately 1.2 million dogs are killed on the roads each year. The number of cats killed on the roads in the US every year is much higher at an approximation of 5.4 million*.
In most of these cases, the dog was hit for a relatively simple reason considering the facts. The dog cannot be seen by the motorist and the driver only spots the dog once it is too late. Even if you have a light colored dog, at night every dog becomes a hidden target."
I'm jus sayn.
Of all the meetings of my career (and there have been many strange ones and odd ones and nice ones), this was the oddest.
This company, from the front door to the secretary in charge of the CFO--and she asserted herself as if in charge--to the CFO himself, was strangely cold.
I am a Southerner and most folks respond to me with some varying degree of warmth.
Not the folks at this company.
They were cold as a dead fish.
Just saying...for what it's worth.
As an aside, I used to go to a mafia hangout on Hanover Square in NYC for lunch (the food was irresistible).
The staff and the clientele (diners all appeared to be made men and above...professional) were friendly and nice. I spoke to them and they were friendly in return.
The United Air folks were cold as dead fish in comparison.
