Expecting the world to act like anything more special than the world seems to be a vain concept without lifting up a God who has a particular, hallowed purpose which is above anything the world can begin to conceive of unaided. Even the lauded heroism of the world has now degraded into the worldly, rather than reflecting the holy as it used to do. And so it becomes embroiled in vain violence.

We need more than “godly standards.” We need outright recognition and worship of a God who is worthy of being worshiped by living accordingly. We could live happy mere mortal lives with standards that are a lot less. However, God wouldn’t be reflected in them, or at least would not be reflected in a manner that is the witness that He wants, before the angels even when not before men.
We need to affirm afresh that there is a heaven, and that we not only are called to go to heaven, but we are called to live unto heaven coming into us.
The evangelist, not even the nattering moralist, much less the politician, is needed to bring the message here.

Honestly I’m over the killing phase- just wanted to offer the spices to make the dish hot. My kid is pushing 37. The military were rotten to the core in this instance. I talked man o man to the deputy commander of the base... a two star that was also a Baptist preacher. He told me to get on with my life. Note- I had ets’ed by this point and was a civilian as far as he was concerned.
During my base/service exit briefing- this particular two star gave the hurrah ets/exit briefing to all of us troopers saying goodbye to Uncle Sam. I bit my tongue and kept my personal situation to myself. It seemed like the right thing to do considering the personal nature, and the type of format that it was, on my last day in service.
I went to Raeford Parachute Center and made a freefall jump from 12,500’ out of a Bonanza Twin Beech aircraft, dressed in my Class A’s.
Over time- I have surprised myself by my level of self discipline.
It’s important to point out the hypocrisy of the law enforcement branch of the US Military.

The question for you is how to keep from getting mired in all that unhappiness. God can provide new things for you if you will open up your mind to let Him show you how He thinks.
Wow. I’m pretty sure I knew this guy back when I was stationed in Norfolk in the late 90’s. He wasn’t a SEAL then but was prepping for the training program. He lived a couple doors down from me in our apartment complex. Seemed like a nice guy with a hot wife. He was a motor-head with a seriously souped up car. We used to talk from time to time.

At least in the case of services like Google, it’s a pretty benign process. They sell your eyes to advertisers. It’s up to you whether you want that to go to your soul or not.

Try doing what the the rest of us do: living within your means, whore.

I am sad for the situation that both he and you were in. I don’t know why he did not summon up the gumption to stand firm for the Lord, but it’s not as if this kind of thing didn’t happen over and over in the bible story itself. People fail God, and then later learn better.
It’s easy to preach with mere words. It’s harder to preach with living, meaning to stick your neck out where you know the world will smite it — and then keep right on going afterwards with that smarting neck. That preacher sold out at that time to the world, for its passing benefits. He doesn’t even know what Christ would have done if he had tried to stand up for what was right. Generally this looks like a “Good Friday to Easter” scenario. First a price is paid. Then a reward greater than that price comes.
The right reaction before God would be a resolve to live better before God — not worse — than that person did during this sad episode.
