A driver who used wooden logs and chicken wire to reinforce his vehicles suspension was ticketed and had his car impounded by police following a traffic stop in west Quebec.
The MRC des Collines police said they pulled the 1999 Toyota Tercel over on Sunday at about 10:45 p.m. on route du Carrefour in Val-des-Monts after noticing the car didnt have working brake lights.
After pulling the car over, they discovered that the 28-year-old driver had no proof of insurance and an open beer in the front seat, police said.
A closer inspection of the car also revealed that three of the four tires showed signs of advanced wear (including no tread in some spots), it was missing its windshield wipers and had a rear suspension held in place by the wooden logs.
It was basically keeping the vehicle up, said Sgt. Martin Fournel.
After administering a sobriety test, which the driver passed, police impounded the car so it could undergo a mechanical inspection. In addition to the towing bill, the driver was also given a $481 ticket for open alcohol. He will also be ticketed for various safety infractions and failing to have insurance documents.

Nice truck. Too bad the driver/loadmaster has completely taken leave of his senses.

“Isnt the Tercel pretty much the worst car Toyota ever made?”
In the 80’s I had a GF that drove one. The steel was so poorly made that almost every time I went to turn a bolt, loosen or tighten, it would break, and not from excess torque. POC car, but they got great mileage when they still ran.

Back in 1968 I bought a $300 VW Beetle in Atlanta & drove it to California (yeah, I know, young & crazy).
A few months later it was in the shop for something and the mechanic called be back to the service bay. The front transmission mound was broken, so the previous owner had put a 2x4 block between the top of the trans and the bottom of the VW floorpan, then wrapped 3 strand guy wire with a turn buckle for tension to hold everything in place.
Hey, it worked! Plus, the VW REALLY cornered well!
(Ahhh, to be young and ignorant again...)
