Can anybody tell me why Banana bread is considered an unhealthy food? It’s often made with a whole wheat base with bananas and nuts added. Banana sweeten the bread, not sugars....so what gives?
Typical recipe ingredients:
1 1/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon fine salt
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus more for preparing the pan
1 cup sugar
3 very ripe bananas, peeled, and mashed with a fork (about 1 cup)
1/2 cup toasted walnut pieces
Care to re-think your comment about how bananas sweeten the bread?
As to the specific situation in Calgary, it’s a mixed bag as to how best to deal with this. IMO, no student, regardless any disability, should be separated from the group for other than legitimate educational purposes. The “healthy eating” program doesn’t meet that criteria. If this happened in the US, I’m quite confident the mother would definitely have a cause of action against the school and it would be on multiple fronts. The school would end up on the short end of the deal.
Because it's something people actually enjoy eating.
