Who is the batter? Colossus? He’s best friends with Nightcrawler, in the next panel, who is a devout Christian. And why would this farm-fed Russkie be a Muslim anyway? Of course, it may be someone else.

They’re not comic books anymore. They’re “graphic novels.”

Comic book artwork went to $#!& in the 1990s and probably won’t ever improve.

I blame Rob Liefeld.

Compare and contrast the above with the Filipino cartoonists who drew for American comics in the 70s and 80s

Night and day the differences in the medium these days.

In the 1940s and 1950s page rates were horrible and some art was minimal but even then there were dynamite artists in the medium.

Unfortunately they rarely live up to the standards of a novel.

Will Eisner pioneered the format and was active dating back to the 1940s (he passed in the early 2000s).

I’ll tell ya though, living overseas with no tv and being a teen, those comics might as well have been novels. We would read them over and over just to kill some of the boring idle time.

I’m reading the old comics from the sixties thru the eighties and they’re quite entertaining with commendable artwork. I’m selective about the modern comics. There’s a few series I follow. As for the Marvel films, they lost me about five years ago. Killing off Spidey’s girlfriend in the end of an exciting film, such a downer. Killing off Superman. This must be traumatic for young persons, as if saying the good guys can’t win or saved bcc e those they love.
