The Pentagon says the highly-accurate satellite guided missiles, launched from two ships in the Mediterranean sea, hit every target with pinpoint precision.
It took launching 61 missiles total to put 59 on target. One missile failed, and another had to be aborted. In both cases another missile was launched to take its place.
The Pentagon released imagery that shows hardened shelters were no match for the cruise missiles. Each of the targeted shelters had a hole in the top, and charred airplane wreckage scattered nearby.
The U.S. is still doing a more complete assessment, but estimates 20 Syrian warplanes were destroyed either in bunkers or in the clear.
In addition, a Russian-made surface-to-air missile site and its associated radar was destroyed, essentially rendering the airfield unprotected against a future attack, at least in the short term.

There are more ships lost in the ocean than airplanes lost in the air.
Susan Rice, of the Obama administration passed a report in January(?) that said ALL chemical weapons were gone from Syria.
“If your bombing a air base shouldn’t you bomb the runway?”
Not if we have plans to use it in the near future for our own jets....think.
Great. A target for the next run.
Am in total agreement with you. Our neighborhood streets were full of potholes. The city then got a contractor to repave the street. We thought it would take a month or more, and dreaded the lack of access during the work. Nope. Contractor used micro-surfacing techniques, several trucks came through our street and were done in less than an hour or so, did the whole neighborhood in one day. Very impressed at the speed they filled and repaved everything, and we were back to driving the roads within an hour. It's been a couple years and the road still looks perfect. I imagine an airport runway could be back in operation in a couple hours after a bombing.
Pretty brave.
Damn right. I stand with President Trump all the way.
“Arent they using those war planes to kill ISIS?”
Actually, no. Assad’s primary goal is to end the revolution. Isis isn’t the revolution, it is an outfit that is trying to establish a new country. But Isis is also being guided by Assad’s strikes or no-strikes to live in areas that are full of revolutionaries. Yes, it’s a bit hard to decide who is doing what to whom, and it is confused by the fact that people can be members of one group today, another tomorrow and Isis on Thursday. Anytime somebody strikes them, those same fighters become innocent civilians.
Mostly, Assad is trying to keep Turkey out and has concentrated on a group called the Turkmen, who are not Isis, except on Thursdays. And, all of this is about who owns the pipeline that takes Middle Easter gas to Europe.
Better than sending bombers and fighters.
“Not if we have plans to use it in the near future for our own jets....think.”
So now we are invading Syria??
Try not to panic.
I trust someone will correct this if not completely accurate, IIRC effective disablement of runways and taxiways takes a specialty weapon such as the Paveway bomb or equivalent perpetrator, which is is strictly carried by manned aircraft. A Tomahawk cruise missile doesn't have the punch for this task.
Military GPS is more accurate.
Are you serious!!? Get a clue noob.
Yes, but they weren't 'bombing' an airbase, they used Tomahawks.
Because we didn't hit those targets.
Don’t laugh, the Russian’s can replace all of that rather quickly, Assad
doesn’t need his own stash.
Are you certain?
Chemical weapons are usually stored as two “safe” ingredients that are mixed right before use.
We are so sorry that you feel that such actions don’t demand an active response, but thankfully cowards like you are not in positions of power.
It was a simple question. You are an idiot. It’s a good thing you are not in a position of power.
That is good! The pro Cruz thing. Some people are not happy with anyone. I would prefer the U.S. stay out of world affairs. Sorry, I do not trust photos of dead women and children, nor do I trust a President’s family members giving advice.
Unless Syria was about to bomb Israel during Passover week I doubt the wisdom of engaging Syria.
