Unfortunately, until such time as some proof is offered or some action is taken, the story looks bogus. The left can simply claim Rice was investigating Trump’s connections to the Russians and keep that narrative alive. If no action is forthcoming, the only reasonable conclusion is that it probably amount to nothing.

Not totally, although there is a fact vacuum.

The reports say that the investigators have looked for a "Trump / Russia connection" but there is no evidence of collusion.

If there is no evidence of some wrongdoing (either independently, or within the exchange), there is no justification to unmask the US person side of the exchange.

So, according to the press's own reports, Rice unmasked the US person side, without justification. I don't believe that is a crime, but it is contrary to procedure, and Rice was methodical in this breach.

Sharing the information with people not cleared to have it, leaking, is a felony. There is no question that there was a leak, somebody IN THE GOVERNMENT is a felon. I think Ben Rhodes will be the easiest one to convict, but it is unlikely he is the only leaker.

She's allowed to investigate, but in order to unmask, she needs justification. That will be a fact question, what was said between the parties?

I have yet to hear one single allegation of wrongdoing on the part of the Trump campaign, and the allegation that the Russians hacked the DNC are based on a report that has been discredited.

That said, I agree with you. The press can move the goalposts, erect straw men, and otherwise evade logical and honest evaluation of the evidence it has provided to the public.
