Amazing firefighters from ATL airport
Oh puhleeez. Atlanta traffic ain’t nothing. Try LA if the Bay Area
Put a FORK in I-85 north & south UFN.
That is where the fire started...underneath the overpass that is 85 in that area. The fire burned long enough and hot enough that a portion of the road collapsed
Going to be a while before this gets fixed
A section of highway that is an overpass
Let’s see how Atlanta does. In California, after the Northridge Earthquake, the governor at the time (Pete Wilson, a Republican), called up the president of the largest highway construction firm and told him to rebuild the I-10 overpass that had TOTALLY COLLAPSED in West LA (roughly 14 lanes wide). He also said that it was an emergency, and that he didn’t give a damn about minority set-asides, women-owned businesses, small-and-disadvantaged contractors, racial ‘equity’, or any other crap.
Traffic was flowing in a month.
No not even close. This is not funny. No need to horse around
I was considering living there many years ago. What cured me was not so much the interstate traffic - bad as it is. No what astounded me was the traffic out in the suburbs once you get off the interstate. Endless traffic jams crawling on two lane highways. No way I'd live there.
Not an explosion. They believe it is a fire of plastic conduit that was being stored there
No. That is incorrect
And if is still wrong
It is a highway over pass. Plastic conduit was being stored there....until fir is out fire inspectors will say nothing more
No it doesn’t. No tanker involved. It just takes a hot fire that burns long enough. Apparently plastic conduit was being stored there. Fire inspectors will say nothing further until they can get into it
I admit that it didn’t occur to me that the good folks in Atlanta would allow that kind of materials to be stored under their freeway.
So now let’s start the conversation of at what temperature does concrete burn...I don’t know.
When isn't driving through Atlanta not a traffic nightmare? I'm old enough to remember when the expressway through Atlanta was 2 lanes in either direction. It was a nightmare then.
There are alternate routes using 75 & 285, as well as side roads which can get anyone around the collapse. Keep windows up, lock doors and don't stop for anything. :-)
We'll get through it. We're tough. We have no choice but adapt & deal with it.
Actually what happens with this hot fire over time is the rebar in the cement pillars heats and becomes soft.....connections give and collapse hapoens
