I row everyday on a Concept2 and I watch Dark Horse Videos often to learn what the pros do.
I guess it's the age but I have to do cardio and resistance daily or I just get depressed.
It's always been like that.
It's a blessing or a curse.
My cats sleep all day long...but I have to be pumping iron and pulling oars to stay alive.
I hate stationary exercise machines.
There really is nothing more rewarding than using your body to generate actual motion under the blue sky.
If you want to row, I recommend doing it in a boat in the water.
Can’t stand exercise bikes, I don’t want a Peloton, no treadmills, none of that.
All those things do is make you do all the work and give you none of the reward, which is forward motion.
Just my opinion!
Are you ranked?
I understand what you mean. I will take a bike on a road any day or a walk instead of a treadmill.
When I set a PR, I rank myself only to find out I am in the middle of the pack.
Rowers are tough...and old.

a bike on the road in my area is a statistic in the police blotter! Hell, just walking on the roads scares the bleep out of me.
I love my concept2 :)
Hey RoosterRedux, I want you to know that I got a Concept 2 last March because of you! I clicked on your profile page for some reason (it was primary season, so I was probably thinking, “Who IS this guy?!” and clicked to find out, lol. Sorry! :) ). Anyway, I read your information on the Concept 2, which I’d never heard of before and had no idea I needed. I read every review on Amazon (over 600 at the time...now over 1200...I know because I still read ‘em, lol). Of course I came across the Water Rower and researched it, too. C2’s reviews were simply better, as was the price, plus the fact that I could get Row Pro. Learning that it was used by university rowing teams and Crossfitters was what ultimately sold me; I knew it had to be the best rower out there. But it all started with a recommendation from a fellow FReeper, and I can’t thank you enough! I wanted to thank you sooner, but I couldn’t remember on who’s profile page I’d learned about the C2. Soooo...thanks again!!! :)
Yeah, I know. That’s unfortunate, but there are more than a few places like that.
No matter what though, you have to keep your head screwed on on a bicycle on the roads these days, what with people with their freaking cell phones and stuff. That’s just insane.
I know a guy who was involved in Harley organizations and such, had a top end bike of all kinds of extras, and he just stopped riding.
He said it got nerve racking. He ended up just giving his bike to a young man who really wanted one..
You are in fantastic condition, congrats..!
Florida...SUP...live in the real world.
Gadsden1st...what do you mean? Are you saying it is different in Florida? (Don’t know what you mean ‘live in the real world’...)
SUP Stand Up Paddle
Nothing gets the heart racing like a dolphin breaching for air next to you.....or a big gator sliding off a river bank.
You can do it year round in Florida.
That’s great. I have had mine about 4 years now.
BTW, Concept2 service is incredible. I called them to ask if I should lubricate the flywheel (answer: no) and the service rep chatted with me for about 30 minutes, discussing all kinds of rowing stuff. Very good company.
More like a rowing community than a company.
I also mountain bike, but have had several close calls with cars on the way to the trail. I now limit my biking to weekends.
Yet, as far as indoor machines go, the Concept2 is better than a stationary bike. It is more whole body and is truly grueling. And it's addictive after you develop a routine.
Concept 2 has a website where you can download you daily row and compare your performance to rowers around the world. And there are tons of videos on performance and rowing form.
I would just drive my bike to the trail. Especially here in Florida.
I was coming back from hiking with my dog last Sunday, and I saw a cyclist riding in the right lane on one of our many narrow two lane roads of certain death. I know she was on her way to the paved bike trail, but I would not even walk on the side of one of these types of roads.
Truly dangerous, Florida left no room for anything other than cars on these roads.
I do my inline skating on a closed circuit track. No cars allowed. So I feel nice and safe there unless I fall and bust my butt.
The only exercises I am willing to do indoors is my weightlifting and ab wheel and push ups. I confess that i do these while watching tv.
but as far as rowing goes, I really have been wanting to get a kayak, not the sit in kind, but a larger one that can also hold my shepherd and backpack, and go kayaking and camping with her.
I just love being outside. There is really nothing better.
