Your terrific and heartwarming account of homeschooling reminds me of the stories Ben Carson has told about his mom, who taught her boys great study habits and diligence. Dr. Carson said she would ask for their homework, look at it, hand it back and say, “You can do better!” And they would do it again. Later on he found out she hadn’t gone past third grade or something like that and was nearly illiterate; but she cared deeply about helping her kids get an education and make something of themselves. Sounds like you were practically a PhD in comparison!
I taught my self how to read, by age 4 I was reading books, and lived in libraries, and my parents’ house had book cases on every way. I read the encyclopedia for fun in grade school. So that was my education. Never stopped.... :-)
