It seems that everyone has a different spin on it being taken off the table. I was surprised that multiple NEWSMAX articles were very pro-Ryan and anti-Trump.
My spin is that we are in new territory.
No longer can Obama be blamed. The media will make trying to blame Obama sound worse than when Dems blamed Bush for everything.
Ryan cannot be blamed as there is no Ryancare.
Trump cannot be blamed as there is no Trumpcare.
The Freedom Caucus cannot be blamed as there is no Repeal.
But some teams are left with the ball.
Tom Price and Seema Verma have massive power to change and abolish regulations. They can give massive waivers to the states for Medicaid, Kidcare, WIC, TANF and the many HHS programs.
Assuming Price and Verma are smart:
States have the opportunity to take new initiatives. They no longer have to dance to Slavitt’s tune.
Insurance companies can experiment.
Hospitals, Doctors, can experiment as with direct care that totally bypasses insurance companies.
Medical Sharing plans that are not insurance have the freedom to expand without fear of Obama wasting all their money in court battles.
Voluntary Charity from Wounded Warriors to the Shriners and hospitals run by religious groups should have more freedom to raise money and spend it the way they wish. Protections from fraud and use of non-profit money to line fund raisers pockets, yes. But not beyond that.
And
Congress still has the opportunity to fix parts of the system. The Ryancare bill put the cart before the horse. That was its major problem.
There needs to be Tort Reform. De-Regulation needs to go beyond what Price-Verma can do. Currently much government funding is earmarked for specific diseases and programs based on who has the best lobbyist... So much of the big health grants for research and HIV and Autism and every special interest does not go to solve the problem. The money goes to the lobbyist industry, and to design the health programs to get the money, not to heal the patient.
Indeed, under the current system, the customer of the Insurance Companies is HHS. The customer of the Hospital and doctor is HHS, not the patient. The patient is just a widget in the production process to get HHS money.
The states that manage Medicaid, Kidcare, WIC, TANF, etc have no incentive to consider what is best use of taxpayer money. They have no incentive to consider what is best for the Medicaid member.
Who is the customer? That is the change that must be made regardless of anything else.
The customer is the government. That’s the way obama wanted it and tge way Ryan wanted it. McConnell also. These two can’t come out and say that or they’ll be labeled socialists.
Trump could not fight them. They are too powerful. Ryan’s plan that Trump had to go along with in order for Ryan to be put out of power by the people who hired him (the electorate -ostensibly) was Obamacare by another name.
Only now that the house’s stupid plan they whipped up after their candidate of choice, Hillary, was defeated, can Trump put together a plan that makes
economic sense. He might not do that but he couldn’t do it until now. Ryan is a never Trumper Never means never.
I’m one of the few that sees this as a good thing so maybe I’m wrong.
I do think that people are way underestimating Trump as usual.
Ryan was never going to put together a good plan. And he was never going to work with Trump he hasn’t accepted Trump as president any more than any of those women in the nyc marche’ll e against Trump for eight years. Ryan doesnt care about the electorate or their health care any more than he cares about their wanting Trump as president
Do people forget that? Or had Ryan become a respectful person when I wasn’t looking?
