On March 24, 1999, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) commences air strikes against Yugoslavia with the bombing of Serbian military positions in the Yugoslav province of Kosovo. The NATO offensive came in response to a new wave of ethnic cleansing launched by Serbian forces against the Kosovar Albanians on March 20.
The Kosovo region lay at the heart of the Serbian empire in the late Middle Ages but was lost to the Ottoman Turks in 1389 following Serbias defeat in the Battle of Kosovo. By the time Serbia regained control of Kosovo from Turkey in 1913, there were few Serbs left in a region that had come to be dominated by ethnic Albanians
We should have let the Russians and the Serbs push the Muslims there into the sea.
We should have let the Russians and the Serbs push the Muslims there into the sea.
Operation Noble Anvil / Sky Anvil was literally the only operation I was involved in throughout my 21 year career that I detested.
As far as I’m concerned, those who ordered and led that operation are guilty of war crimes and should have to pay the price for it.
Yes...nowhere in Clinton friendly media did (do) they mention that Kosovo is SERBIA! IT’S THEIR COUNTRY! So we bombed a sovereign nation without a declaration of war. I just wish I could round up a bunch of those “Albanian” zipperheads and have them invade Westchester county. See if the fake media would then stage photos of supposed starving invaders then!
Per Wiki... "Today, Sunni Islam is the predominant religion of Kosovo Albanians."
And, I'm guessing they're still here.
Interesting; I don’t think the History.com article mentions Islam or Muslim. I guess the authors did some ethnic cleansing of their own.
To my understanding this posting is not entirely correct as Serbs remained in this area through the Turkish occupation and it was Tito that began the mass importation of Albanians into Kosovo to subsume the Serbian identity into a Yugoslavian one as Serbia was by far the largest of the Yugoslav republics.
It IS interesting.
And, if you take just a quick read of the region’s hellacious and twisted history, you realize just how hopeless it is to get those folks to live in peace. Same with the Israel/Palestine issue. There’s too much hate, fear and death too ever get it straightened out.
Just ain’t gonna happen.
Thanks for posting your interesting article.
We backed the wrong horse.
Correct.
