The character of LaFou is the one portrayed as having same sex likeings. He gives Gaston some longing looks and an embarrassing hug. Later, toward the end, he is seen at a ball, and, I suppose he could be interpreted as being flirtatious.
IMHO, I think all of it will go over the heads of younger children. HOWEVER, my opinion is that it doesn't belong there because it doesn't do anything to promote or extend the story line. Why is it there? It is there to promote a political/sexual activist agenda. Not too overtly; but, it really doesn't belong there at all.
LibertarianLiz, thank you very much for the review.
I also saw this movie this weekend.
Did not intend to originally, but sometimes one has to reconsider when someone else is involved.
To tell the truth, I was not offended. It was not what I expected. It was a good movie in fact.
Maybe if you grew up somewhere without any gays, or have a deep philosophical opposition to them, you (might) find something about it to be upset about, but really, it was pretty harmless I thought.
I liked it.
(not as much as Kong though)
Kong was a very good movie.
Have you seen the animated version? If so, how does this compare to the original? FWIW, even before the LeFou thing, I was already gonna give it a miss. Because of the casting. The trailers really disappointed me. I thought Robby Benson, David Ogden Stiers, Jerry Orbach, Angela Lansbury et al were so much better that the new lot.
