Great story with a happy ending (in this case) ... There are lightweight rope and chain ladders which can be deployed at 2-3 stories and save your life. Something to consider!

I wonder. This guy and his wife acted heroically of course I wonder, with the fractures and the deceleration trauma causing the premature birth (placenta rupture or something related) whether this is the billionth case in which people refuse to plan based on dependence on government or third party ‘health’ care

Actually, I thought those were required on buildings of 3 stories or more, if there’s no fire escape. I know my last 3rd floor apartment had one.

Good plan. But each member of the family should practice using the ladder at least once. Crisis is no time for experimentation. Don't buy one of these and then just put it in the closet. If you live on the third floor, practice from the first floor is OK too. ;o)
