MARKSVILLE -- A jury has been picked in the trial for one of two Louisiana law-enforcement officers charged with murder in a 6-year-old boy's shooting death. Twelve jurors and two alternates are scheduled to hear attorneys' opening statements on Monday (March 20) for Derrick Stafford's trial.
The Town Talk reports that jury selection ended Friday. The judge, prosecutors and Stafford's attorneys had spent five days questioning dozens of prospective jurors.

Also Few, Mardis' father who survived the shooting, may also come under close scrutiny in the case. In court filings, Stafford's attorneys contended that tests in the hospital where Few was being treated for his wounds showed he was drunk and tested positive for amphetamines and benzodiazepines (Xanax or Valium).
If Stafford’s hands are up, how can they let the cops go free?

For those not familiar with the back story:
Black cop and his buddy shot a 6 year old white boy to teach the boy’s father a lesson. The other cop involved in the shooting was upset because a woman had picked the boy’s father over him. (The other cop was also the son of the Assistant District Attorney in the Parish).
For the pro-cop contingent here - the father had his hands in the air when the cops shot him.

In the words of the defense attorney:
“Theres no way, even if our conflict did inflict great bodily harm on these individuals, thats not the same as the specific intent to kill, which the state has to prove, Christopher Lacour said, Staffords attorney”.

I’m not advocating for the police by no means but the father had no business driving his 6 year old around while the father was drunk and on drugs. I hold the father partly responsible because he should have never been on the road in that condition, let alone with his 6 year old son. He should have been home.
Fine, gun down the father in cold blood for drunk driving if you want to (although he was sober enough to put his hands in the air). But intentionally murdering the 6 year old for the status offense of the father? There is no explanation for that except pure evil.
The cop with the body cam, who didn’t pull the trigger, testified that he was not in fear of his life.
This cop needs to be executed (although the charge won’t support that sentence) and the wanna be boyfriend needs about 20 years in Angola to think things over.

I was not there so I can't say what happened. But I agree that there was no need to open fire like they did. Trigger happy.
I think Parnell’s the deputy that’s decided to tell the truth.
