There was a good “30 for 30” ESPN documentary about him and his relationship with his father growing up (and now as an adult). Did a good job of bringing out the humanity of each without ever excusing some of the things they did.
As for incidents like this. Todd is an addict, pure and simple (and in no way do I mean that to be an excuse for him). Per the documentary, this is what killed his career as much as anything his father did.
I saw that ESPN documentary. It was one of a series called “A Football Life” or something like that. It was excellent. When Todd M. was a kid his father would not let him eat donuts or any kind on non organic food. The kid went straight into drugs in high school. While at USC he was popped for cocaine possesion in Newport Beach. All downhill from there. While he was playing for the LA Raiders he hung out with Charlie Sheen.
Junior Seau was Todd Marinovich’s team mate at USC. In the documentary Seau talks about what a selfish loser Todd Marinovich is. It is ironic that Seau is dead and Marinovich is still alive.
