I would reverse it. I like Part II more than Part I. It is the old scenes with DeNiro that make Part II superior IMHO.

Yes, I agree the sequel was greater than the original, for several reasons. You mentioned DeNiro ~ but what about Robert Duvall, James Cann, Abe Vigoda, Bruno Kirby? Dont even get me started on the women in that film! I fell like watching GFII tonight! :^)

Yes I agree with you the scenes from the 1920’s with DeNiro made that movie. I also thought Lee Strasberg who played Hyman Roth did an excellent performance.

Its been said (even here on FR which is why I believe it) that Godfather II was one of the only examples in the history of film where the sequel equaled or even surpassed its predecessor as a cinematic masterpiece.
Then again, I am deeply saddened there was no follow up to Red Dawn, as I am not a deep thinker.
