An East Georgia town mourns the loss of a local teen over the weekend who was shot after a girl sneaked him into her house and her dad mistook him for an intruder.
A burglary call brought police to a home in the overnight hours Saturday, but before officers arrived, the teen was dead.
It turns out the victim, 17-year-old Jordan Middleton, was a friend of the homeowners daughter.
The homeowner, Derrick Fulton, told police he heard noises downstairs, so he got his handgun from a dresser.
When he got downstairs, the familys dog led him to the guest bedroom. Fulton told deputies he called out that he was armed and the intruder needed to identify themselves. When Middleton didnt say anything, the dog kept barking and acting aggressive toward the bedroom.
Once again, Fulton yelled a warning.
As he entered the bedroom, Middleton ran out of the closet and Fulton shot him in the chest.
Deputies found the young boy lifeless in the foyer.
I had a similar incident yrs ago.
My daughter’s boyfriend sneaked into her downstairs bedroom.
She was not home, guess he planned to wait for her.
I heard a noise downstairs, got my P35, sneaked downstairs. Pushed her door ajar, saw a motorcycle helmet on her bed. Knew immediately who it was.
When I pushed the door open he saw me standing there with a pistol he turned white (er).
He never tried that again.
Not without the homeowner’s knowledge.
Sometimes the ingredients and procedures are correct, but the cake still falls.
Dad protecting his home and family from an intruder is not “dumb.” Someone else is dumb.
She’ll make herself the victim, and never look back.
Back in the day, senior in H.S, I would be out with my girlfriend and head back to her house and make-out in her room (no sex). Huge house, being a dumb kid I never thought of her parents catching us - cuz we weren’t really doing anything. But it might be 2 am when I would leave, with her sleeping on her bed. Yeah - pretty stupid walking through the house as I was leaving at that hour.
I recall dropping by after being gone away to college. Even if she wasn’t there the mom would invite me in and hang out. Even after we had broken up one time (and stayed for dinner!). Good people.
My brother told me a trick for my daughters’ boyfriends.
Toss them a bullet. Then say “If you ever make her cry, the next one will be coming a lot faster!”
(Yes, they have cried. No - I haven’t shot anybody. Yet.)
He knew that he did not, and would not, have permission of the head of the home. He acted like an intruder when called out. Of borderline age, he was practically a statutory rapist. The one who invited him knew she did not have viable authority for the request, and absolutely would be cancelled if known by one who should have been consulted.
To summarize:
Rapists found in daughters’ bedrooms get shot.
Pedo found.
In another article, I read that the girl was 14, the boy was 17.
Suspicious.
It was 2:30 am or something
Not studying algebra at that time.
An invitation into the house does not include sneaking in. It does include front door, door bell etc.
The dad’s reaction was one a father makes. Sorry. Not guilty.
Good life lesson for daughter and everyone who knew this kid. Don’t be stupid.
I was kinda in the same position before. Not 2:30 A.M. though.
Young girl. Come on in. Mom and Dad’s asleep.
I’ll spare the details. But if Dad had walked in on that he’d have probably shot me.
It was worth the risk though.......
Not in my house she doesn't! My house, my rules. You don't like it, pack your bags. Need help packing?
The boy should have yelled out that “Your daughter let me in the house !!” Dad had know way of knowing who this guy was and when its dark and someone hiding in a closet...well this is what happens.
She’s a minor and obviously did not have permission from her dad to invite the boy. That’s why she snuck him in.
Sorry , but if he’s old enough to sneak into a house and screw a mans daughter he is old enough to face the consequences.
The daughter has no legal rights to invite people not cleared with her father to the house . The house is the fathers territory both legally and morally.
Don’t think abrupt movement out of a concealed location is commensurate with an ambush attack by an intruder? The father did attempt to clarify the circumstances. Neither the daughter nor the ‘guest’ were forthcoming in a way to defuse the situation. Death by misadventure.
Bingo. Well said.
I might be missing something.
Did not respond to warning.
So says the dad, right?
The other witness to that potential conversation ain’t speaking no more.
Um, no, the report in front of you states that. Is it accurate? Who knows!
Anything is possible. I simple stated or repeated what the report stated. My comments were based on the report. Would it be more desirable if I just made wild speculations out of thin air?
The fact is, at this point, for all I know, the Dad was banging the daughter and she was in on it and both were motivated to get rid of the stupid boyfriend. But instead of making wild baseless speculations, I simply repeated the information available in the report.
If the shooting is deemed justified by the DA, the father cannot be sued in Ga. He will have immunity under our laws.
In the over night hours where a father is reacting to what he believes is a home invasion, a daughter has the responsibility to inform the father that the individual discovered hiding in the guest bedroom closet is a friend of hers that she invited over......
Then bursting out of the closet while the homeowner is standing outside with a firearm in his hand is another stupid and irresponsible act........
I wouldn't even consider charges in this case unless the daughter can be charged for excessive stupidity........
