"Jū" can be translated to mean "gentle, soft, supple, flexible, pliable, or yielding." "Jutsu" can be translated to mean "art" or "technique" and represents manipulating the opponent's force against himself rather than confronting it with one's own force.

I have been familiar with this meaning, and have fancied that I am using this principle in fending off the blows of my grandson, by arranging things so that they hurt him more than they hurt me.

I think this is legit, even if it is easy for me to do, under the circumstances.
