Any young kid would end up having nightmares if the child had a mother or aunt such as the complaining mother in the article or some of the commentators above. An ouija board is just a silly spooky toy and if you think it’s a gateway to spirits, you need to get real or medicated.
but more like If the parents want to play with one at home it's their prerogative, but I don't think it's a kindergarten teacher's place to use a "spooky" item with her students. I'm a public school educator (on my lunch break!) and I can't imagine doing something so foolish. I'm very careful about what Halloween stories I read with my students; the age and grade definitely need to be taken into account. My friends and I used to use one occasionally at slumber parties in about 5th or 6th grade. We were old enough to crack up about how dumb it was. Kindergartners, though, are a different story. I would think this teacher would have sense enough not to do something that could leave some of her students afraid, or MORE afraid, of the dark. If nothing else, it should have occurred to her that some parents would be upset. Playing with an Ouija board in class is more trouble than it's worth (clearly!).
It all comes down to what are your basic philosophical assumptions.
If you’re a monist, meaning naturalist, then you’ve accepted the premise that everything is only material.
But if you’re a dualist, as are all Christians and others, you accept the existence of the spiritual realm.
By the way, monism has not been established by science or by any other process.
