"From a .38, not some mouse gun." It might have been a 38 S&W; 146 grain round nose lead bullet at about 700 FPS. As you say not a mouse gun. The bullet just went were there was not anything important, lucky guy.

Like you say likely a round nose - hollow point would have likely kept him down a few more days.
Probably some Saturday night special with 30 year old ammo.
