Police arrested Ryan Ponder, 23, Johnnie Beveritt, 18 and and 16-year-old. Records show they face felony animal cruelty and aggravated battery charges.


So the turtle charges are more serious than beating and kicking a human, a US citizen and a war veteran.

Oh well, at least they might see some jail time.

From a quick search, so I don't know if it's accurate:

In Florida, Aggravated Battery is the intentional touching of another person with the intent to inflict great bodily harm or to use a deadly weapon. Penalties for the offense include mandatory prison, with a maximum penalty of up to 15 years or more, depending on the application of Florida’s 10-20-Life law.
