As a 52-year old Floridian who is the son of 2 Yankees (a mother from Ohio and a father from Nantucket), I was all over the map on that NY Times dialect test. South Floridians (white ones, at least) don't really have any noticeable accent. We simply pronounce things like they're supposed to be pronounced when we were taught phonics in school.

Same in L.A., even more so because we were the site of the flattest “news style” American accents since around the 1960s.

But drive 100 miles north, inland, say Bakersfield area, and you’d swear you were in the Midwest with the country accents. Love it.
