Judging from your photo though, it sure looks like BAD rock upstream! That water must be rotating in there like a coal machine.

Couldn’t gain too much more from those photos....Should be something new coming up for today before long.
That is not considered a major issue, because that area is solid rock. There will be some erosion, but what they were worried about is more of the spillway breaking off, if that breakage makes it to the top, it could take out the spillway intake, allowing way too much water to come through.
Just like erosion on the emergency spillway isn’t considered a major problem, EXCEPT that the erosion is undercutting the 30-foot concrete wall, and if that wall falls, way too much water will escape too quickly. However, even then they don’t think the entire dam would fail, because it would only erode down to the bedrock.
First video of the day showed up on YT. Best quote in it is “it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do”. I kid you not.
