As Rumor, a German shepherd, took long, elegant strides around the ring at the 141st Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, she seemed to cover every inch of the green carpet.
It was as if there were no other dogs in the room, and soon that was indeed true as Rumor stood alone, earning best-in-show honors on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
The German shepherd standard talks about quality and nobility, said Thomas Bradley, the best-in-show judge. She is just magnificent.
Last year, Rumor, named after the Adele song Rumor Has It, was favored to win it all, but she was upset by a German shorthaired pointer named C. J.

Has this been confirmed?
I think that’s the dog’s name.
At least this one was posted in Chat.
;-)
Its rumored the Russians tried to rig the show to get the Borzoi picked as champion.
Thanks! Rumor is a beautiful dog!
(my pup died Jan. 22, still dealing with it) Wonder if there are any shepherd mixes around that aren’t too big?
No, it’s a fact.
Beautiful dog.
When I was in grad school I was visiting my parents and found a puppy wandering on a dirt road.
I had not intention of keeping her but also did not know quite what to do. I brought her to my trailer in Hattiesburg and a little neighbor girl told me that she was a German Shepherd for sure.
Another grad student who was local and had room took her. Maybe six months later she had turned into a beautiful white shepherd, very well mannered and friendly.
My only guess is the white ones are not as desirable but really don’t know for sure.
The Irish Setter came in second place. Would have had first but me and the boys had a few drinks and forgot to mail in our ballots. Damned Germans ... so fickin’ organized.
Great Danes rule!!
My female black shepherd had a black mother and a white father. Four pups were male and the standard black and tan and the three female pups were all black. All AKC.
If you are looking at behavior rather than appearance, corgis are like shepherds with short legs.
Thanks. We had a corgi/beagle mix seven years ago. She was a sweetie, except for the impish beagle part. Looking at behavior. Appearance is secondary.
watched it last night here with some Freeper friends on a live thread...watched with a heavy heart as we lost our beloved maltese Maggie in October...
it is a great show every year- though i thought they were going to give it to the Boxer last night... (and thank goodness the poodle didn’t win)..
