and altruism is part of that exceptionalism and what we want to do, then being altruistic is selfish. Life requires gaining and keeping values. Selfishness is concern for one's own interests and is prolife because it is concerned with gaining and keeping values. Altruism is antilife because it is the sacrifice of values.

Rand wasn't necessarily consistent. Her philosophy was based on individual self-interest, but sometimes it sounds like she favors acting in group or national self-interest. When it comes to things like tariffs that can lead to different policies.
Rand didn't have a patent or copyright on enlightened self-interest. Dragging her into the discussion doesn't add much.
