Almost two weeks after buying a brand new computer, it's still giving me fits.
They one they sold me is an HP with an AMD processor. Other than having trouble with Flash on Firefox it's been doing great, until Sat. night when, while watching a movie on YouTube, the computer suddenly froze up completely and rebooted. Then the next evening, while watching another long video on YT, it happened again.
An online acquaintance has talked me into taking this back (I have one more day to do so) and switching it for a Dell with an Intel processor for practically the same price (though they'll have to order it). I'm going to try to spend the day taking most of my stuff off this thing and then return it tomorrow. I still dread the set-up, after having just gone through it. Why they didn't sell me that other computer to begin with I don't know.
And now more trouble . . . for the past four years I have subscribed to AVG TuneUp and have been automatically charged each year at this time. I attempted to cancel my subscription but whenever I logged into my AVG account it told me I had no subscriptions . . . then this morning I see I have been billed for it!!! And I had no opportunity to cancel. Fortunately I've applied for a refund already, but this is an awful lot of trouble to go to.
I'm beginning to wish I'd never gotten a computer to begin with twenty years ago. You can't live with 'em and you can't live without 'em.
I'll be so glad when all this is over and some sense of normalcy returns.
Bought a Dell desktop a year ago. Lasted long enough for me to transfer most of my stuff to it, then died. Their 3rd world tech support was a nightmare (actually the software side of their house seemed competent - not the hardware side). Finally managed to erase my stuff by pulling the hard disk, scrubbing, replacing, and then sent it back to them. Bought an HP with no problems or regrets.
It is most likely the video portion which is causing your problems. When my wife's machine stopped working I simply added in an inexpensive stand alone video card and it has worked fine ever since.
My other four AMD based machines ALL have stand alone video cards.
I believe that the cause of your problem is inadequate cooling for the CPU/GPU unit and it is the fault of whoever assembled the machine for you in that they failed to ensure adequate cooling.
An Intel machine might run cooler but one still has to be cautious with any combined CPU/GPU processor as they run hotter than stand alone devices.
for what it is worth, three of my machines are "high end" AMD processor based machines which I built myself, with the fourth being a lower powered machine which was top end when I built it.
Nice bunch of Libs you have there.
The tech guys say it’s paradise.
You can ride your motorcycle 10 months out of the year.
But, and this is a bummer for me, despite the fact that they have loads of exotic Boa species there, they are not allowed to own any.
It’s kinda like how we’re not allowed to capture and keep any native reptiles.
It was very many years ago and probably couldn't find it anymore. Somewhere around the Florida election recount debacle.
LOL
Yet I would *love* running wild and free with the native slithers.
[maybe nekkid, even]
:D
If using Firefox on Youtube then it is Firefox. It use to reboot my pc after it crashed when I left Firefox open during the day. I suspect on of the many add on’s I had was really doing it. I removed them and added back what I wanted (leaving several off) and the problem went away.
There’s one born every minute.
Ducking...
That's just it. It hasn't happened since I removed the YouTube Flash add on from Firefox and theoretically might not ever happen again. But there's no way to know that, and what happened should never have happened with a brand new computer anyway. I've been advised by several people, including one at the store where I bought it, to bring it back. For the same price I can have another computer with an Intel processor.
Everything I do here is a chance. If I don't return this tomorrow I never will, because it's the last day.
I really prefer to play YT with Flash in Firefox, btw.
