German tennis player Andrea Petkovic said it was the worst thing I experienced, and the epitome of ignorance, after her Saturday match in Lahaina, Hawaii, against American Alison Riske began with a robust singing of the German national anthem so cherished by the late Adolf Hitler, Das Lied der Deutschen, which opens with the immortal verse, Deutschland, Deutschland ueber alles (Germany, Germany above all), and has been banned in Germany since 1945.

American Alison Riske began with a robust singing of the German national anthem so cherished by the late Adolf Hitler, Das Lied der Deutschen, which opens with the immortal verse, Deutschland, Deutschland ueber alles (Germany, Germany above all), and has been banned in Germany since 1945."
"Some German fans started singing the correct German anthem, buy were drowned out by the Nazi tune on the loudspeakers."
"German tennis player Andrea Petkovic said it was the worst thing I experienced, and the epitome of ignorance."
Germany, Germany above all / above anything in the world / when always for protection / we stand together as brothers. / from the Meuse river (rising in France and flowing through Belgium and the Netherlands, well west of Germany) to the Nemen river (east of Poland) / from the Adige river (Italian border) to the Belt (the sea near Denmark).
I can't believe these people are not ashamed of their country/past/the fact that they are breathing. I must retire to my fainting couch!!
“Deutschland Uber Alles” is not a Nazi anthem. It dates back to Imperial Germany.
It’s no different from over here when we chant USA USA or raise a Confederate flag or say build a wall, America First etc. etc. etc. As soon as people realize all the left has to attack us with are words, then rolling over them, like a freight train is a simple matter of ignoring them and moving forward. Hold hands and Sing America the Beautiful at the top of your lungs. Of course, the usual suspects, the names we hear day after day after day after year after decade will swoon.
Banned?
I remember in the late 1970s or 1980s when the then West Germans sent that commando team to Kenya (I think!) to successfully take back the Lufthansa airliner Palestinian hijackers had seized. When they returned to a West German airport they came off the plane and stood at attention (in civilian clothes!) to Deutschland Uber Alles. Remember it predates WWII! Were the lyrics different from the WWII version? Don’t know it was being sung in German!
Actually, it is better musical composition and sounds better than the US anthem.
The star spangled banner is too choppy and is all over the place.
I bet this guy knows the words to the "correct" anthem.
It was written by Haydn, and the “Deutschland Uber Alles” part was one verse. It was removed after WWII.
It’s the same with the current Russian National Anthem, which musically is the same as the Soviet Anthem, but with different lyrics.
I still think the Soviet/Russian anthem musically is the best.
And the current Russian lyrics actually mention “God”.
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Für das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach lasst uns alle streben
Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Sind des Glückes Unterpfand;
|: Blüh' im Glanze dieses Glückes,
Blühe, deutsches Vaterland! :|
Unity and justice and freedom
For the German fatherland!
Towards these let us all strive
Brotherly with heart and hand!
Unity and justice and liberty
Are the foundation of happiness;
|: Flourish in the radiance of this happiness,
Flourish, German fatherland! :|
People get the Lied Der Deutschen confused - one would expect better from the Fed Cup Tennis organizers! ;-)
Maybe they could use “The Watch on the Rhine” but as I vaguely remember it lyrics it largely anti-French.
Negative! I’m not ashamed of the country I was born in, I had no hand in the past or am I ashamed of the fact that I’m still breathing. ..
Yep, they could have played the Horst Wessel Song instead, LOL!
Incorrect.
The anthem of the Third Reich was something else ENTIRELY.
People make this mistake all the time, it’s like they WANT to be wrong.
The “swastika”..?
It’s a 3,000 year old Buddhist symbol, but flipped.
You can find it alllll over Japan in fact until very recently the quickie symbol for a Buddhist temple was that —a backwards Swastika.
But with more foreign interest in Japan owing to the impending Olympics they had to suddenly drop it, cuz stupid panicky dummies.
“The budget this year I think is a tad niggardly...” —> DC bureaucrat fired.
Yeah. Popcorn days. I wake up every morning hoping the left has gotten better. But. No. I won’t say anything else. But you know...
Russian anthem music is by Alexander Alexandrov. Lyrics by Sergei Mikhailov.
Same man wrote the lyrics for the Soviet anthem. ;-)
Well he had a different "boss" back then, LOL!
The ancient Germans would have sung whatever they damned-well pleased and skewering our Globalist/Marxist Elite friends who like to burden/control the earth with guilt among other things, would taken them about 4 minutes. Unfortunately, their genes are gone.
Fake News. Lying Press.
No wonder it’s bylined Staff. Obviously no one wanted their name attached to this pack of lies.
For the young and ignorant that might be reading this, the song was adopted by the liberal Weimar Republic run by the Socialist president Frederich Ebert, father of Communist East German leader Frederich Ebert, Jr. (Lord Mayor of East Berlin during the Berlin airlift and for years thereafter).
“Opens with Nazi Anthem”. No, “Opens with Socialist Anthem”
