His superior tactics and grasp of the situation saved a lot of American lives. His solders loved him for all the right reasons.
No matter what some may think of Mel Gibson, he has done a superior job on a number of films. During one battle, the sounds of bullets hitting flesh and the sheer realism of the whole deal had my wife quietly sobbing as she "experienced" what it was like to actually be in a heated battle and taking massive casualties.
God keep and care for Hal Moore.
Check this video out of the Col. in Nov 1965. The video is not good, but the audio is what is important.

Col. Moore is certainly a warrior and a hero.
Check out post #6 and listen to him in Nov 1965 at LZ-X-Ray.
Garry Owen General. God rest you.

Second Lieutenant Walter Marm was the third recipient of the Medal of Honor.
That's then LT Rescorla with his M-16:
Garryowen Sir!
CSM Plumley is waiting for you on the high ground.
“...whose bravery on the battlefield inspired the movie ‘We Were Soldiers’... “
The movie was from the Book of the same title written BY General Moore.
Jeez
He and Basil Plumley are now able to call Custer a pussy to his face.
No argument there - old "Yellow Hair" isn't the gold standard for warriors. Perhaps if he had become a POW ...
Custer had his day at Gettysburg where his outnumbered Michigan cavalry slammed into a Wade Hampton’s Confederate column and stopped it. Had that audacious charge not been made then the Union Infantry facing Pickett’s Charge might have been enveloped from behind.
Custer was a ‘lucky officer’. Luck is important, but it does run-out if you rely on it.

True enough. But just getting into West Point was a lot more difficult then.
I didn’t mean anything negative by that . . . as far as I’m concerned, being the “goat” is an honor.
