I have thought that in 1973 psychiatry left behind whatever tenuous connection they had to science when the American Psychiatric Association (APA) decided to remove homosexuality as a mental disorder from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM). They were unable to withstand years of political attacks. Throughout this time there were no academic papers at conferences refuting any research previously done. From one source I trust the attacks eventually forced sufficient abstentions, under-votes, and apprehensive responses for a third of APA’s 17,000 plus membership to approve removal.
I trust that source, because of the frustration expressed by this writer of abnormal psych texts that there was no scientific evidence to support the change. I took a 500-level statistics course for my MBA in finance, and I could agree with him when he was adamant about including the proper math for an acceptable thesis.
I think psychiatry has a difficult time defending any behavior as a mental disorder after abandoning the scientific method in 1973.
It has gone downhill since Kinsey, but yes, that is a major mark in the decline.
The parents of the real boys could start a new group called “XY Scouts.” Chapters would spring up everywhere, as parents look for a wholesome environment for their sons. No government partnerships.

Enjoy it while it lasts, kid - you can force your way into wherever you want using whatever political and legal bludgeons you want so that you can associate with and be “accepted” by whomever you want, but in just a few years you’ll find that the despondency, the desolation, the alienation inside is just as great as ever......

Little children can’t logically wield the abstract term “accepted” like this little girl did. She is just despicably being used as a mouthpiece for her political activist mother.
Correct - it’s Munchausen By Proxy syndrome. For additional evidence, note the mother in floods of tears - not because she thinks the Boy Scouts are important but because when her child is noticed, she is noticed (or so she thinks).
This is the story of yet an unhinged mother, who didn’t the the hoped for sex she wanted,
