Judy Garland was a very rare mix of shattered nerves and insecurities, self-destructiveness and suicidal tendencies but also a true genius,' wrote Luft in his memoir.

'She was to me the greatest talent who ever lived.'

It seems that artistic talent more often than not comes with manic depression.

I have seen it in many of the artist I have known.

They often turn to drugs and alcohol as their preferred coping tools.

Yup. The two are linked! And she was a genius.

I had a friend who died 5 years ago who was a great friend of hers. He always intimated that she mainlined heroin. I can’t say if that’s true but he did hint at that over and over.

In fairness to Judy, the studio executives got her hooked on uppers and downers when she was still a child actress.

They needed her to deal with the long hours on the set and not much recovery time for rest.

It was straight up child abuse but was overlooked and covered up...like everything else in Hollywood.
