On a night where many members of the Dallas Cowboys organization are sure to shine, a former member of the team was again denied his chance. Wide receiver Terrell Owens did not receive enough support to earn him a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
A candidate must receive 80 percent positive votes from the selectors on hand, which apparently Owens did not...

The Committee consists of one media representative from each pro football city with two from New York, inasmuch as that city has two teams in the National Football League. There are 16 at-large selectors, all of whom are also active members of the media including one representative of the Pro Football Writers of America, and two members of the Hall of Fame.
All appointments are open-ended and approved annually by a majority vote of the Hall of Fame's Board of Trustees. The Selection Committee meets annually on the Saturday before the Super Bowl to elect new members. There is no set number for any class of enshrinees, but the Committee's current ground rules do stipulate that between four and eight new members will be selected each year. Every candidate is carefully scrutinized and must receive at least 80 percent approval of the Selection Committee at the annual meeting before he can be elected. A scale of negative votes for elimination that will vary depending on the number of Selectors in attendance is used.
When the Selectors meet in February on the eve of Super Bowl LI in Houston, Texas, to name the Class of 2017, they will have before them a roster of 18 finalists, along with detailed biographies on each. The 18 Finalists include 15 Modern-Era nominees and on an alternating annual basis either one or two Senior nominees and one or two Contributor nominees. The Senior and Contributor finalists are selected by special nine-person committees appointed from the full Selection Committee.
The Senior and Contributor finalists will also be voted on for election independent of all other finalists. Like all nominees the Senior and Contributor nominees must also receive 80 percent approval of the Selection Committee for election.

You are exactly right. Carter whined and whined when he kept on being passed over. It is a PR exercise along with who the media likes or dislikes. TO should have been a no-brainer, but his various controversies and bad relations with the press cost him. His stats speak for themselves.

On the good news side, Jerry Jones absolutely deserved and got induction. Other than George Halas, NO owner has ever had more of an impact on the league.
Congrats to Kurt Warner and LaDainian Tomlinson! Tomlinson is from my general neck of the woods, so I’ve been cheering him on for years. Both of these guys seem pretty decent off the field, too, which is a plus!
The PC douches are holding his appearances on Howard Stern against him.

I think Warner was also a good tutor for Eli at the beginning of his career.
If there’s one good thing I like about baseball, it’s that their Hall of Fame is prestigious and only accepts the best of the best. You’ve got to put up biblical-like stats in order to even get a vote.

Jody McDonald on his CBS radio talk show tonight said that Hall of Fame voters have told him that getting in is solely based on performance on the field.
So TO being a jerk off the field is not supposed to be a factor.
But apparently it was.
It reminds me of the baseball writers' animus towards Albert Belle. But in the latter case, you could actually make a valid argument against him-based on his stats.

He was still a great football player, and worse personalities have made it in.
The thing that baffled me about Albert Belle was that he came from a good family (responsible married parents) and had a good upbringing, yet conducted himself like the worst ghetto trash.
Still, he’s the only player to have 50 doubles and 50 homers in the same season, and in a strike-shortened season at that.
Anderson not only had the second longest career in NFL history (25 seasons), but he also had many great moments. His game-winning field goal against Minnesota in the 1998 NFC championship game put the Falcons in the Super Bowl.
John Elway should've been lobbying for Terrell davis to make the HOF because TD's the only reason Elway won two Super Bowls.
As for Curt Warner? I love this pick. Warner getting rejected by Hayden Fry at Iowa, only starting his Senior season at Northern Iowa, having to work at HyVee to make ends meet, then thrust into fame...it's like the Lord had a plan for him.
Jerry Jones? As long as they keep his decrepit butt out of the War Room on Draft Day, it's all right by me.
He should be in. Ty Law should also get in.
He belongs in the Hall of Really Good. Hall of Fame, not so much. It takes more than sharpies and popcorn.
There was no bigger head case than Charles Haley. If he’s in the HOF then Owens can go too.
Law is definitely one of the best cornerbacks of the past 2 decades.
