Marketing 101 - Pissing off your customers is not a strategy for success.
I doubt their white liberal readership will be pissed off by an appeal to be more "diverse". They'd probably actually appreciate articles on how to make the experience more gay-friendly.
Outside magazine is about kayaking, mountain climbing, etc. You won't find much there on the outdoor activities that conservative whites traditionally find appealing, hunting and fishing.
