“A nurse removed my cathetar it was not six feet long but I was shocked how long a tube it was...”
You broke your leg and they cathed you? Isn’t that like going to the dentist and they tell you to remove your pants?
My dentist and her entire staff are women.
12 days in the hospital.
I hit a boulder and broke the ball off of my left femur, my leg was just dangling...odd thing was that no one believed that I broke my leg.
I skied from my accident site to the groomed slope when I realized that my left ski was not behaving, so to speak. It was crossed over my right ski.
When I tried to lift my left leg a small ‘lump’ would appear to the left of my crotch so I knew I was injured.
Odd thing was that I looked too good to have such a massive trauma.
It’s a long story but even my Doctor did not believe that I had broken my leg: ‘you would have a lot of bruising if you had injured your leg like that,’ he said.
It’s odd, but I only bruise a week or so after I have an injury. Weird.
The X-Ray nurses only took one X-Ray of me and I asked them to take another: ‘You don’t have a broken leg,’ they said.
Then the Doctor whistled: ‘Wow! we only see this type of break from horses and motorcycles!’
The nurses procedded to take many more X-Rays at the direction of the Doctor.
I have been to a number of Trauma conferences since and have come to learn that I was extremely lucky to have survived my break. One session was on injured people who do not seem injured. I spoke with the Nurse that conducted that session. There are actually folks like me who do not bruise right away and it’s a problem for first responders...
I ski much less now and stick to the ‘groomers.’ I don’t ride horses and have sold my Ducatis.
I have a good life and today is our 24th anniversary. I’ll have a nice cigar and take a dip in the hot tub.
May you always be catheter free my FRiend.
