Yes I noticed it but thought it might be something with my computer etc.
I turned it off, and unplugged the modem for a few minutes which sometimes cures problems but had no effect.

It is a Hughesnet satellite modem. The only kind of fast service available here in the sticks.

I’ve noticed it. It started happening right after the last time the site was down — I forget when, maybe months, maybe weeks ago.
A page loads a few lines and the rest is blank for several seconds. No big deal. Sometimes it may be 15 or 30 seconds. I don’t think it’s ever been longer.
I use Firefox and Opera, mostly on Win8.

10mbs DSL/wifi router. I had hughesnet. I became almost suicidal at the cost and the throttling. The second DSL became available I switched. I am lucky.

setting the preferences at a lower number does not solve the problem.

Free Republic is likely under even more DDOS and other attacks than usual (which is a lot). Amazed they have kept the site up as well as they have.
