Ike is the first President that I can remember and as an Army brat I took a special interest in him. I was old enough to watch his speeches and even at a young age had an interest in such things.
His first big act was to bring the Korean War to a halt. He had India relay a message to Red China, that if the fighting didn’t stop we would drop The Big One on them. Dunno why Truman, the hammer of Hiroshima, didn’t do this, but Ike did.
If you haven’t read The Hidden Hand Presidency you should. Well worth your time. There’s another recent bio that was good but I forget the title just now. And Crusade in Europe by Ike himself is good.
