Could be a medical issue.

Early stages of Alzheimer’s and dementia often have uncontrollable fits of rage.

At least her husband gets a break.

Probably not. After dealing with the left in DC and the metro area, they are all loud and obnoxious when it comes to denigrating others who do not share their lunacy.

You might be right. However my leftist MIL behaved that way several decades before succumbing to Alzheimer's.

I believe this behavior is most often a manifestation of bad character. These people were either born nasty, or they became resentful -even hateful- very early in life.

They gravitate to Leftism because it is the religion of resentment.

That’s possible.

“Could be a medical issue.” Doubt it. I've seen versions of this around New York City, where I live, for the last six months or so. Some of these anti-Trump people are so enraged that people they consider intellectually and culturally inferior — i.e., Trump supporters — are moving against their views that they cannot conduct themselves politely.

Last week, two months after the election, I was waiting to pick up my car from a private garage on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a neighborhood where HRC got about 70% of the vote and Trump got about 30% of the vote. (However, we Trump voters were very quiet about it.) Also waiting for their car were two white guys who were arguing about Trump — one yelling that he was great, the other yelling that he was akin to Hitler — and a white couple in their 70s. Well, the white woman turned to me and said, “Can you believe this?”, to which I said, “I know. The election is over. It's time to stop arguing.” She said, “No, no, I mean that man thinks Trump is great. What do you think of that?” I repeated, “I think the election is over and it's time to stop arguing.” The woman would NOT quit: “But what do you think of what he is saying?! He actually like Trump? Can you believe it?!” At this point, her husband piped up, “Carol, she's right: the election is over. Stop arguing and leave her alone.” Just then, the valet pulled up with my car.

Think about it: this woman was giving me a hard time when I was merely refusing to engage in a discussion about Trump two months after the election. And I don't think she even suspected I had voted for Trump! She just couldn't believe I would pass up the opportunity to decry him.

So, I tend to think this obnoxious woman on the plane has no neurological problems. She's just like many — not all, just many — of the people who voted for HRC: smug, arrogant, and crazed by disappointment.
