Ok so I dont own freerepublic only Jim does. But we support it. Can there be an official report why on one of the most important days of crossing the finish line FR was down? Can that be explained please? Maybe we need to hold a special fundraiser to have a alternative data site and professional server managers that can handle contingency issues? This is by no means a criticism of Jim. But it was like being locked out of our own celebration at the club we belong.
It explains why he's super-leery of being under anyone elses roof (in terms of being hosted) or even taking anyone elses advice.
I don't blame him. After that experience, I'd be gun shy too.
Smile for the camera, humble.
;-)
I feel that this site is the most important site there is on the internet, however, Jim has done an amazing job to maintain this site for we people who have come together and fought for all different reasons...
Jim should be thanked highly for what he is doing, he doesn’t have to do it you know, he could have just walked away and left it down...appreciate what people do and how they do it, if you can do better, then do it or help Jim do it, but don’t complain when things break...
I did not get to see any of President Trump only a few brief moments of him taking his Oath Of Office because my oldest daughter was killed that very morning, so feel lucky that you just have to deal with a ‘down site’ instead of working to plan a funeral for your child!!!
You can always get info and leave comments on the Facebook page
I’m not mad that the site went down, I think it’s absolutely amazing what JR has been able to do with this place. I do think it highlights the vulnerability of such a critical part of the patriotic, freedom-loving part of the political world.
Would it cost double what the system now costs? How prohibitive would that be?
What is a similar website (only in terms of usage and risk, if it truly was the number of users on Inauguration Day that caused this)? And how do they cover these things to not be down for a couple days? The mirror server that you describe? Just curious.
If it would cost a one time purchase of mirror equipment, maybe we can fundraise for it under the old pot slogan. “FreeRepublic gets you through times of no money better than money gets you through times of no FreeRepublic.”
Can I interest you in a full set of Encyclopedia Britannica's or how about a Kirby Vacuum Cleaner with all the attachments?
I think that is a reasonable request and maybe when all the facts are answered we might get an answer. -Tom
OMG PJ where the HELL have you been??? It is so GREAT to see you again!!! Congratulations on MAGA, many primaries you kept us of the ledges!!! THANK YOU PJ!!!!
I agree, but here are no guarantees that FR won’t be disconnected by ICANN, since Barry ceded US control.
I actually found other stuff to do.
It was a perfectly fine substitute. You don't have to join.
Nor do I.
Things happen even to those who prepare for the worst.
As others have stated - Friday was used to focus on history and enjoy the moment in contemplative thought and prayer. When it came time to party, the dance floors were bare. Actually hit the sack before sunrise (a blessing, in that the night before - too excited to sleep.)
Now we’ve two celebrations - President DJT and Free Republic has returned!
I'm sure no one missed you, then.
Sure did miss my FR yesterday.
Although I have a Facebook account...
...I have my reasons for not using it.
LOL. You should have been here the day Drudge broke the Monica Lewinsky story. OMG. It was taking 10 minutes to post a single reply in a post.
Hell no.
My ex-wife fell for that crap in '91 and I'm still getting collection mail about it.
Since we know certain talk shows (coughrushcough) use us as show prep and make a ton of money off our words, wonder how scared they were to go back on the air Monday without FR. Maybe they should shoot us a couple of pesos.
Any site can crash. There are dozens of reasons. This was a data base hit. It’s like getting run over by a steam roller....not easy to come back from
The team did a great job getting FR back online as quick as they did
When you say hit... do you mean sabotage?
